EquilibriumSF returns Saturday May 1st for Alchemy @ GAFFTA (Update: New talks announced!)
**AWESOME Updated Talks Schedule Below**
EquilibriumSF returns! On May 1st, 2010 We’re teaming up with the esteemed False-Profit crew for their annual interactive art extravaganza – Alchemy.
Saturday, May 1, 8pm-2am | at GAFFTA (55 Taylor St) | $15, cash bar available | RSVP : http://bit.ly/alchemy2010
We’re presenting a new talk every hour on the hour from 9pm to 2am:
9 PM MetaMind Evolution by Andreas Stadler, software engineer and inventor, presents his work on neuro-feedback EEG mind-machines. He explores their applications to meditation, lucid dreaming, and brain training, as well as creative uses in music and art. After the talk, you’re invited to don the MetaMind headset and software, displaying beautiful visualizations from multiple channels of your very own brainwave data. (http://meta-mind.de/)
10 PM In Your Mind’s Eye by Dr. Tristan Ursell, Stanford University. You are a highly evolved creature, bred to perceive that which keeps you alive best, not what represents reality best. Learn about why you see the colors you do, and how your brain distorts the world around us.
11 PM John Bela is a founder of the design collective REBAR, creators of the global PARK(ing) Day event, Civic Center Victory Garden, Panhandle Bandshell, and other transformations of public space. He is a producer of creative ideas and a maker of things. John will present the works of Rebar, and how its many pursuits remix the ordinary, repurpose the ubiquitous and restructure the fabric of the urban environment. (http://www.rebargroup.org)

Equilibrium: Stargazing Adventure – Thursday, Dec. 10th with Dr. Toast and Alxndr aboard TransportedSF
We’re taking the show on the road in partnership with the mobile party crew at TransportedSF. This will be the third in our event series, and it’s a smaller, unique, more intimate affair…
On Thursday, December 10th please join us aboard that famous funky, orange, bio-diesel party bus for an Equilibrium Stargazing Adventure. We’ll make our way out of the city to a special location in the Marin headlands where telescopes and a Star Party guide await our arrival. Get hands on with the wonders of astronomy as our guide instructs you in proper telescope use for planetary and galactic viewing. And to show you where it *all* fits in the bigger scheme of things, NASA researcher Michael Broxton, will fire up an amazing projected planetarium and take us on a guided tour of the known universe.
All along the ride and at the stargazing location we’ll feast our ears and wiggle our bodies in dance-like motions to the fat beats and sweet melodies of perennial favorite dj’s Dr. Toast and Alxndr. Delicious chai, hookah, and tasty treats will be served at the star party.
Space on the bus is limited, so make sure to get your tickets ASAP at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/91424 . Note, this event is *not* at Langton Labs; the bus will pick us up a few blocks away at 135 Dore St at 8pm sharp.
Michael Broxton Bio & Talk Info:
Michael Broxton is a research scientist in the Intelligent Robotics Group at NASA Ames Research Center where he specializes in image processing, computer vision, and cartography. He is the lead of the Ames Planetary Mapping and Modeling team, which seeks to make NASA’s data more universally and easily accessible to scientists and the public. In 2009 this team collaborated with Google to launch Moon and Mars modes in Google Earth.
In his presentation Michael will give a guided, 3D tour of the universe, planetarium-style. Starting with a view of the night sky, prepare to pull back to explore the Moon, Mars, outer planets and beyond. Along the way, take time to appreciate the “habitable zone” of our solar system, ponder the existence of extrasolar planets, and attempt to grasp the vastness of space beyond our galaxy. Upon your return to Earth, you can compare the projection of the current night sky to the real sky above your head, and enjoy the augmentation of being able to zoom into distant objects as photographed by society’s most advanced telescopes to see them in all their distant glory.
